WESTPAC LUNAR NEW YEAR ROADSHOW 2016 - CASE STUDY

The origins of Lunar New Year festivals are thousands of years old, but this year we were tasked with making those festivities 'new' again. Teaming with Peanut Productions and Westpac, we had great fun in meeting a challenging brief; to bring that sparkle back and combine the contemporary with the traditional to events in 5 states as part of the Westpac Lunar New Year Roadshow.

We were an integral part of 4 events at these fantastic locations: The National Museum of Australia, Canberra The Star, Sydney Crown Palladium, Melbourne Moda Portside, Brisbane To keep consistency, as our seamless panels were a key part of the AV solution, we dry hired them to a regional AV company in Adelaide.

Let's not forget, this is the Year of the Monkey; those born in these years are believed energetic and intelligent, much like our team working on this Roadshow. However, there was no monkeying around as you'll see below. 

Firstly, we had to ensure the build process was feasible in our Sydney warehouse; let's just say everyone got heavily involved. There were several test stages to ensure the monkeys were swinging correctly. 

The major challenge was to deliver the same top end solution over the 4 venues. There were multiple floor plans and different venue specifications to which we had to cater. Not to mention, the number of attendees varied for each venue from 250-500, so it was paramount that the end product not only worked for the individual location, but also matched Peanut Production's vision. 

We'd like to say we not only met but exceeded the brief. We pushed some serious boundaries;  we executed free standing 3m high 3 sided LED columns. We even used an EPVC finish on the columns. This gave the guests the chance to experience Westpac's Lunar New Year Roadshow from all angles. Also, just in case you were wondering, we ensured this came in under budget.   

It goes without saying we're already looking forward to the the Year of the Rooster. They're said to be hardworking, talented and courageous, so get ready for a rooster inspired roadshow next year. But first, check out our gallery below.

Feel like monkeying around? It’s time for dragon dances, colourful floats and lantern parades to welcome the year of the Monkey.

Following the lunisolar Chinese calendar, Lunar New Year takes place on 8th February, and with festivities lasting 15 days it’s a massive event in Australia. In fact, Sydney hosts the largest Lunar New Year festival outside of Asia, so it’s a busy time of year for us as we get stuck in, helping to light up the city.

Stepping alongside some of Sydney’s biggest iconic buildings has taken on a new twist during the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas – Vivid Sydney 2015.

Now in it’s seventh year, the incredible light and sculpture show runs in Circular Quay, as well as The Rocks, Walsh Bay, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont and Martin Place with more than 60 light installations.

Traditionally Easter maybe thought of as the less sparkly and magical festivity compared to Christmas. But not for jewellery firm Fabergé who wanted to stop London shoppers in their tracks.

Asked by iconic store Harrods to dress their window for Easter, Faberge created a virtual egg, mapping projections of dazzling colours and jewels on to a plain egg, shrouded by darkness in the backing display. The end result was an explosion of attention for the firm and a tasty Easter treat for viewers– just one for their eyes, not their mouth.
